GBYBS announces partnership with Gresham Barlow ASA

March 2016

As the interest in youth sports declines for kids age 8-16 across the country, programs are working to redefine themselves and the programs they offer. For many years, students in the Gresham Barlow School District have had several baseball and softball programs to choose from including multiple Little Leagues, Junior Baseball, ASA Fastpitch Softball, special Travel Teams, and more. Usually, the more options the better, however in the case of baseball and softball, multiple options have caused stress on families as they try to decide which program is best for their player once they are out of the 'tball' age.

GBYBS has the answer for 2016 by bringing recreational leagues under one umbrella. In December of 2015, GBYBS announced their move from Gresham Barlow Little League to Gresham Barlow Youth Baseball / Softball. This affiliated baseball with Babe Ruth League which includes Cal Ripken and GBYBS began searching for the answer for softball and found it with ASA. Combining forces between the programs, GBYBS and GBASA found a true win-win, leveraging the reach of GBYBS with the softball knowledge of GBASA. The two organizations will continue to run on their own financially for 2016, however there is potential to combine in the future.

For parents, the benefits are huge including a one stop shop for registration and communications, but even more, they can now take advantage of sibling discounts (across baseball & softball). In addition, the two organizations will be collaborating on programs, fields and administrative needs as well as streamlined communications. Best of all, softball players themselves no longer have to choose between the program and playing with their friends.
GBYBS volunteers will now begin transitioning information from the GBASA website (greshambarlowasa.org) to their website (GBYBS.org) as well as working hard to support the final weeks of registration and team formation including evaluations, umpire training and parents night. From there, we will be off and running. Check out the GBYBS facebook page often for events and updates on all things baseball AND softball.
