Majors - Minors - 2020 Season

GBYBS Majors / Minors recreational Baseball

What is Majors and Minors Division?

The Majors and Minors divisions provide recreational kid-pitch baseball for players age 9-12 along with advanced 8yr olds. At the minors level, players have their first few years with live pitching. At the majors level, players are more advanced with pitching. Teams are formed based on the number of players registered, with an evaluation and draft process.

When is the deadline and how much does it cost?

The deadline to register online for 2020 season is February 15th. A 1wk grace period (with $25 late fee) is allowed. All players must register online for Minors or Majors and attend league evaluations. Registration cost is $160. An optional post-season registration will be available in April for the summer tournament season with an additional registration fees.

All players should attend at least 1 evaluation day February 15th & 16th. Parents will NOT be allowed to watch evaluations. Additional information about evaluations is located in our league news.

When and where are evaluations?

Saturday, February 15th & Sunday, February 16th at PDX Eastside Training Facility.

How are teams formed?

Teams are created through a player draft process intended to keep teams as even as possible. While it is not perfect, we have found that when coaches and players attend evaluations, there is a better probability of seeing this process work out well. Teams will be announced by the end of Feb.

Do coaches umpire ?

GBYBS strives to have paid umpires for all Majors games and a majority of Minors games depending on availability. Coaches may be required to fill in from time-to-time as game umpires. If you are interested in earning $ and getting the best seat in the house, contact our Umpire coordinator to learn more about becoming a Cal Ripken umpire! [email protected]

What is the league fundraisier this year?

All players must participate in or opt-out of league fundraising. This year, players and families will have several options to fundraise including the VERY popular Peperoni Sticks and our traditional hanging Flower Baskets with delivery prior to Mother's Day.

Are there boundary restrictions?

Most Cal Ripken players live or go to school within the Gresham / Barlow district. A player that lived within the boundary and moved out without a lapse in play with the league is eligible to remain with GBYBS. Players living in our neighboring districts not serviced by Babe Ruth / Cal Ripken, such as Reynolds, Corbett and Damascus can play with GBYBS as long as we are the closest Cal Ripken league.
